District Profile - Kolar

Kolar District has played a very important role in horticultural development in the state.  Farmers are cultivating horticultural crops like Mango, Banana, Tomato, Potato in a most scientific way and are obtaining a very high yields.  Since no perennial rivers are flowing in the district, horticultural crops viz., vegetables, Fruits, Flowers are being cultivated into borewell irrigation.  Since district receives a low rainfall, dry land horticulture is getting importance.  Area under Mango, Sapota, Tamarind is increasing year by years.  Farmers are very progressive in adoption of new technology and in introduction of new varieties/crops.  The district has made a commendable achievement in drip irrigation, green house cultivation etc.  Since ground water is declining, dryland horticulture will get increased attention in future years
